Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement (MGOCSM)

The Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement of India is the student wing of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. It was formed in 1908 to bring together Orthodox Christian students with a view to deepen their spiritual life, and to help create a sense of faith and fellowship.

Its precursor, the Syrian Student Conference, was formed by a group of Orthodox Christian high school and university students in Chennai, India. In 1960, the organization adopted the name MGOCSM, after the blessed saint, Mar Gregorios of Parumala, with units attached to all Indian Orthodox Christian churches.

Our MGOCSM a vibrant group of about 30 high school and college students in the age group 13-26 years who are deeply anchored in Christ. It is ably led by our vicar, Rev. Fr. George Daniel. They are individuals with exceptional leadership qualities, a passion to learn more about the Orthodox faith, and a willingness to serve our church and the world around us. They meet on the third Sunday of the month and take part in praise, worship, Bible Study, activities, and discussion. They also participate in various community service projects and fellowship activities and organize monthly bible study sessions at the residence of church members.

Worship of the Holy Trinity on Sunday is done by participating in the Holy Qurbana. Learning to worship our Lord and Saviour, the rest of our lives is done by participating in the MGOCSM.

The second motto is Study of the Orthodox faith based on Biblical truth. Study of the Holy Bible and the life-giving Word of God is encouraged, while balancing individual academic goals and ambitions, to keep them Christ-centered.

Finally, Service to the poor and needy, and the spread of the Gospel to those who have not experienced the love of Christ is accomplished by partnering with people, to reach their God-potential as they connect with God, become like Christ, and influence the world.
