Sunday School Theme 2011

" Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path "

~ Psalms 119:105.

Sunday School Samajam is the students wing of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The Sunday school provides the basic infrastructure to guide the next generation of our church in Orthodox faith and in Christian conviction. To stand firm, a house must have a foundation. To grow properly, a tree needs strong, deep roots. Similarly, our children needs the spiritual food for their spiritual growth and the tools for their spiritual lives.

We currently have about 32 registered students in our School with 14 primary teachers, and 7 substitute teachers. We have classes from Pre-K through 12th Grade. Every Sunday, after the Holy Qurbana, the Sunday School is conducted for an hour from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The first half is the General Session, which is devoted to learning songs, hymns of Holy Eucharist and important Church Prayers. The classes are conducted during the second half of the session. The Sunday School follows the regular School calendar year starting in August and ending in May. The School follows the curriculum approved and published by the American Diocese. In addition to the prescribed lessons, Biblical Stories, Christian songs we also include the general topics related to church and life during our weekly meeting.

The Sunday school conducts other activities to develop and promote the talents of the younger generation. Each year we host a Vacation Bible School (OVBS) during the summer. We also conduct an annual talent competition every year and the winners participate at the regional and diocesional level competitions.

The Grace of All Mighty God, guidance of our Vicar, the dedication of our teachers, enthusiasm and commitment of our students, and the cooperation of our parents are the key factors that contribute to the success of our Sunday school
